How Do Luxury Hand-Poured Candles Differ from Other Candles?
The candle market overflows with poor-quality, cheap imports. Yes, they are candles, and yes, in most cases, they burn. However, manufacturers of cheap imported candles often use low-grade wax that can release toxins into your environment, inferior scents that may also be harmful, and poorly made jars—or as I like to call them, vessels.
In general cheap mass produced candles are exactly that, cheap.
The Dangers Of Poor Quality Candles.
We have bought and tested many candles, from the very cheap imports to higher priced Luxury Candles and what we found shocked us.
In the UK a candle vessel should not go beyond the temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Anything above this temperature can be dangerous, especially if the vessel is of poor quality.
Not only is there a real danger in the vessel failing, you also have a protentional problem with a poor quality scent or fragrance becoming combustible.
Reduced Burn Time.
Many candles boast of long burn times when in fact from our testing of various candles we found the overheated candle burns at a much faster rate. We have found this with cheep imported candles and some so called Luxury Candles. One reason for this is that the maker uses an oversized wick for the vessel, causing candle tunnelling.

Candle Tunnelling.
Candle Tunnelling can be caused by various reasons. The wick is to small for the used vessel and therefore not enough heat has been generated to for a nice wax melt pool. Ideally a candle should be lit and left to burn until the wax has melted to the edge of the vessel. If the candle is lit for a short time then extinguished this can also lead to candle tunnelling as the candle wax has memory and during the second burn it won’t be able to generate the heat to create an even wax pool and will just keep tunnelling.
Once you light a candle, it needs to burn for no longer than 4 hours. This is very important for safety.
Off Centre Wicks.
Another issue that we have found with other candles is the off centre wick problem. If a candles wick is off centre the burn pattern will also be off centre. This can also lead to candle tunnelling and an uneven burn.
