My Harrods Trip to Review Premium Luxury Candle Brands.
Luxury isn’t just a price tag, it’s an experience. Last week, I took a trip to London’s iconic Harrods to perform some “fragrant research.” My mission was to go nose-to-nose with the most prestigious premium luxury candle brands in the world. Specifically, I wanted to see how they measure up to the standards we set at That Candle Company.
Acqua di Parma: The “Lamborghini” of Premium Luxury Candle Brands.
Walking into the fragrance hall at Harrods is a sensory overload. But one display stopped me in my tracks: Acqua di Parma.

If you can imagine the refined, classic elegance of a Rolls Royce designer sitting down with the bold, aggressive visionaries at Lamborghini, you’d get the Acqua di Parma aesthetic. It is loud, it is Italian, and it is unapologetically “out there.”
I encountered a set of vessels that looked like something out of a high-fashion fever dream. One particular piece featured a “Top Hat” lid. When the salesperson lifted the hat to reveal the candle, I thought, “Lovely.” Then, with a flourish, he turned the Top Hat over to reveal another candle hidden inside the lid.
Why? I have no idea, but it made me laugh. It was peak luxury, bold, slightly absurd, and incredibly well-crafted.

Beyond the Label. What Makes a Prestigious Home Fragrance?
While the scent didn’t leave a massive impression (perhaps because I’d spent three hours sniffing everything from Diptyque to Trudon. (Who, by the way, still wins the award for the best cold throw), the accessories were pure art.
- The Yellow Giant: Their signature large yellow candle sits at £900.
- The Throne: It rests on a custom, hand-made leather base with a drawer for accessories that costs £2,029.
- The Total: You are looking at nearly £3,000 for a single candle setup.

Comparing Elite Designer Candles to Hand-Poured Quality.
At That Candle Company, I’ll admit: I would love to create such wacky, avant-garde candle architecture. But at this stage, our focus remains on the “Soul of the Scent.”
While those premium luxury candle brands are selling a £2,000 leather base, we are obsessing over what’s inside the glass. There is a distinct difference between a “Designer” candle and a Hand-Poured Luxury Scented Candle crafted for the home.
“True luxury shouldn’t just be about the ‘Top Hat’, it should be about the air you breathe.”

Choosing Non-Toxic Quality Over Famous Luxury Labels.
During my Harrods trip, I noticed that many famous brands still rely on paraffin blends to achieve their scent throw. At That Candle Company, we take a different route. We believe non-toxic luxury candles are the future.
Our signature Soy and Coconut wax blend offers a cleaner, longer burn than the traditional mineral waxes found in many high-street “luxury” brands. We pair this sustainable base with world-class, quality fragrances to ensure that your home doesn’t just look like a Harrods showroom, it feels like a sanctuary.
